A morning departure as we begin our journey north, we make a coffee stop en route as we head to the market town of Thirsk. With time to explore and grab a bite to eat, we rejoin the coach mid-afternoon to complete our journey to Newcastle.
Tuesday
This morning we drive north to the historic city of Durham, well known for its huge cathedral, sat overlooking the rest of the river and its beautiful cityscape. A must visit is Durham Cathedral with its great architecture and peaceful surroundings.
Wednesday
Today we enjoy a free day to explore Newcastle from our city centre hotel location. If you're looking for some retail therapy, make sure to visit Fenwick's where the famous Fenwick festive window display will be on show or perhaps visit one of the many museums, galleries and attractions that litter the city centre.
Thursday
Today's outing takes us north to visit the famous Beamish North of England Open Air Museum, capturing the spirit of the North East in the 1800's and 1900's. Attractions include a restored tram and replica bus rides, authentic town streets, a colliery village, go down the mine, an old fashioned sweet shop, a working farm, steam locomotives and much more. At this time of year, the museum is festively decorated so we can reimagine what Christmas was like in bygone eras.
Friday
Departing after breakfast we make a quick stop to admire the stunning sculpture by Antony Gormley, the Angel of the North with opportunities to stretch your legs and capture some photographs. We make a lunch stop at the Yorkshire market town of Northallerton before completing our journey back to Lincolnshire.
